Bardel is currently recruiting for an experienced Legal Affairs Advisor to work collaboratively with our Emmy award winning studio team.

The Legal Affairs Advisor is responsible for supporting the SVP of Finance & Business Affairs through management of legal affairs, finance reporting, systems implementation, among other areas.


What you will be doing:

  • Provide support on the negotiation, drafting and review of the full range of agreements in the context of television and digital development and production and the formats licensing (e.g. development agreements, format licenses, production commissioning agreements, co-production agreements, first look agreements, as well as contributor, talent, location, facilities, supplier and access agreements)
  • Advise on underlying rights, copyright and other intellectual property issues, chain of title and clearance matters
  • Advise on legal and business affairs compliance-related questions with regards to film financing governing body and other associated governing bodies.
  • Assist in keeping contracting processes current and effective
  • Ensure all contractual documentation is completed to required standards
  • Administrative support including preparation of reports and/or correspondence, databases, distribution of information
  • Additional related duties, as assigned.


What you bring with you: 

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a legal or business affairs role 
  • Current of a Canadian Bar Association
  • Expertise in film and entertainment is desirable, ideally in the area of animation
  • In-house experience is highly desirable, but otherwise television production experience with a law firm would be considered
  • Working knowledge in copyright law within Canada an asset
  • Ability to recognize and respond quickly and pragmatically to urgent situations
  • Able to reach legal and business outcomes in a timely manner by focusing on key objectives, and seeking support where required
  • Detail-oriented and methodical
  • Confident with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An enthusiasm for and interest in the media in general and television in particular
  • Ethical and responsible
  • Resourceful, curious and eager to take on new challenges
